Equine Hoof Care & Hand-Forged Shoes

Proper hoof care is the keystone to your horse’s overall well-being. As a farrier, my job is to maximize your horse’s biomechanical efficiency and provide your horse with a proper base of support. Below are some of the comprehensive services we offer. Please contact us by phone, text or email so that we can speak with you to understand your situation, and then make recommendations and schedule your appointment.

Kindly advise us in advance if your horse has any behavioral or physical conditions that require special handling, such as excessively long, overgrown hooves, medical concerns, or dangerous or unstable temperament. Extra charges may apply if sedation or extra time is required to meet your horse’s needs.

Barefoot Trims

All horses need regular hoof care, and the most basic yet important service is trimming. Domestic horses require regular trimming to maintain proper hoof balance and soundness. Here at Flatiron Forge, we prioritize properly trimming your horses’ feet for optimal performance and comfort.

Barefoot trimming involves removing excess hoof wall, sole, and frog growth, which helps prevent unnecessary cracking and chipping, along with a long list of other issues such as thrush and separation between the hoof wall and white line.

We recommend regular barefoot trims every 6-8 weeks.

Basic Shoeing

Half Set (front shoes) provide protection, traction, and support to hooves. Front shoes are a common option for horses that are used for light to moderate work. Horses bear over 60% of their weight on their front hooves, which is why we recommend front shoes to prevent excess stress.

Full Set (Four shoes) are recommended if your horse is in heavy work, or is regularly ridden, works on rough terrain, or just needs a little extra support. A full set provides proper support and traction to each of your horses’ hooves.

Therapeutic Shoeing

Therapeutic horse shoes are specially crafted to help horses with various hoof and leg issues feel their best. Whether a horse is dealing with laminitis, navicular disease, or tendon injuries, these custom-made shoes provide the support and comfort they need. By redistributing weight and improving balance, therapeutic shoes help horses stay happy, healthy, and ready to trot with ease.

Glue-On Shoes

Does your horse have trouble staying comfortable in plain steel shoes, or perhaps a specific problem you are working to manage? Our wide variety of glue-on shoes can be a great alternative to standard metal shoes, providing the same level of support and protection, as well as cushion from concussive forces. Glue-on shoes are available in half and full sets.

Hoof Evaluations

Get a thorough check-up for your horse’s hooves to ensure they’re healthy and strong. Our expert evaluation, along with your veterinarian’s recommendations, can help spot and address any issues early, keeping your horse happy and ready to gallop! Some of the concerns we can address:

Lameness evaluations
Rehab and injury management
Crack repairs and stabilization
Acute and chrnonic laminitis and founder care
White line disease treatment
Pads and hoof packing options
Traction devices, including pins and drilled and tapped studs
